PAROLA- Lighthouse of the NORTH

LILOAN, a northern town of Cebu, is home to the famous "Lighthouse of the North". It was built in 1904 on top of a hill known as the Bagacay Point, overlooking the sea.  For over a hundred years, it has guided sailors that passed its harbor.  It is a favorite spot for relaxation and for those who have an eye for beauty and scenery.

I have been to this place years back and it was only yesterday that I made my second glimpse of Parola. The area may not be as wide as the previous years due to the construction of the nearby high-end AMARA estate, yet its beauty remains the same..

REDEMPTORIST CHURCH

OUR LADY of PERPETUAL HELP (Redemptorist Church)

The Redemptorist Church in uptown Cebu is a pre-war church of Romanesque design which was built by the Redemptorist fathers.  What caught my interest with this structure are its belltowers and the clocks that sit on it. This reminds me of the Manila City Hall building where its clock tower became the trademark of Manila and of the city hall itself, though I haven't been there. :)

OUR LADY OF GUADALUPE DE CEBU

Guadalupe, Cebu City

Last Sunday, I was able to visit the parish church of Nuesta Senora de Guadalupe de Cebu in uptown Cebu City which houses the blessed image of the Virgin considered as the Queen and patroness of CEBU.

The image was said to have been found by a local chicken trapper inside a cave near the river in Barangay Kalunasan called Sapang Diyot. It was originally given by the Spaniards when they first went ashore on the 16th century and eventually kept by the natives for fear that it will be taken back by the Spaniards or dishonored by non-believers. The place can be found at the back of where the present Our Lady of Guadalupe church now stands..

SUNDOWN IN BAROBO

BAROBO... when darkness falls
These were the photos I took as I witnessed darkness as it covered Barobo, a sleepy seaside town in Surigao del Sur.  This was where we made our last glimpse of the sun as it disappeared into the horizon.

LICANTO FAMILY BEACH RESORT

Licanto Family Beach Resort is located in Barobo, Surigao del Sur. It was one of the beach resorts in south Surigao that we dropped by for sightseeing before we headed back home via San Francisco in Agusan del Sur which is a town away from our base in Prosperidad. It is not the typical beach resort with white sands, yet the place will suffice if you loved the waters and if you longed for privacy and tranquility by the sea.

SINULOG 2012

SINULOG 2O12 Cebu has just witnessed a successful festivity in honor of the Holy Child Jesus on the 3rd Sunday of January 2012. Much have been uploaded on the NET and this is my share of the festivities.  I wasn't able to take much shots because I went to see the street dancing late in the afternoon.

Congratulations to all winners and see us all in the coming Sinulog celebration 2013!
