My recent assignment to Bohol on work-related matters has given me opportunity to once again explore this side of the island- this time with my camera.  It was on the last Tuesday of March that we arrived in Tagbilaran but we headed towards the eastern coastal towns up to Talibon in  line of duty on that very same day and back to Tagbilaran via Carmen the following Wednesday.  Our work schedule within the city the next day has given me the chance to sneak out early in the morning to take photos before going back to Cebu by the weekend.

HOORAY at the END of the Day

BAGACAY POINT Northern Cebu

Liloan in northern Cebu has been a favorite place for me to take a break away from the stress of office life. It is just a few-minute ride from where I was based and accessibility is of convenience with no traces of traffic on weekends. For two weeks now, I was not able to take actions with my digital camera because of work that should be prioritized for the moment. I just have to post, for an update, the setting of the sun I've witnessed the last time I was shooting pictures at PAROLA, and the last hoorays of colors that were scattered in the horizon at the end of that day..

UNDER THE SUMMER HEAT

Catarman, Liloan, Cebu

No one can escape the heat of summer. It can now be felt everywhere. I guess everyone is eyeing for a cool solace to beat the heat. I tried hitting the beach somewhere in this northern town of Cebu which is the nearest I got to where I was based. Though it was not that ideal one with white powdery sand but the mere sight of the water will just suffice to make a splash.

But, I was never that fortunate as the waters were ebbing away from the shoreline. It was low tide. What else shall I do? 

Well, it's playtime! And I am taking snapshots of my playground.. :)

THE SOUTHERN GARRISON

THE CUARTEL  Oslob, Cebu

The heritage town of Oslob has made me discover for myself more of its past as I came across the Cuartel, an unfinished structure just outside the perimeter stone fence of the Church of the Immaculate Concepcion. As I wonder what this structure was, I sighted some writings on one of its walls:

This unique structure was built through the effort of EL GRAN MAESTRO DON MARCOS SABANDAL to serve as barracks for Spanish armies but was halted during the arrival of AMERICANS in 1899.

The coral stones used for its construction came from remnants of the collapsed floor of the church bell tower. The walls of the structure which measure 19 centimeters thick still stand. The facade built of coral stones features a double row of arches.

It was a very good additional info with my history. Shutters then followed as I appreciate more of the place. I was thankful I was still able to take a glimpse of these mute witnesses of the past.

Mute Witness of a Bloody Past

THE BALUARTE- Oslob, Cebu

My weekend escape into Cebu's southern town of OSLOB has made me explore further what this place was in the past with the structures that were still visible up to this very day. One was the Baluarte, which is a Spanish name for a watchtower. It is one of the many watchtowers that ply the coastline of Oslob as part of the defense system against Moro raiders in the past.

However, as you watch the structure closely, all you can see are the ruins of this ancient watchtower. Indeed, a mute witness of a bloody past..
